Whangamata Beach was voted one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand in 2018 and the locals love to share, they joined together to set up Toes In The Water so that everyone has access to Whangamata's wonderful beach. Whangamata's local clubs and businesses from as far afield as the Waikato have supported this amazing project along with our incredible community. Enough money was raised to purchase the beach wheelchairs, beach walkers, harnesses, matting, boardwalk and a shed for housing the equipment. The first chairs were accessed on the 27th of December 2021.

Once registered you will be able to book out equipment through our easy-to-use from here.
From the selection of wheels above carefully choose the piece of equipment suitable for your use, then in the calendar choose the day and time you would like to use the equipment. A Booking Summary will pop up, check you have the correct day time and equipment then enter your name and registration number. Should you need to cancel your booking click the 'Taken' button and again you will need to enter your name and registration number (you can only cancel booking you have made). That booking time-slot will then become open again.
On the day you have chosen come ready with your team of support people. Because they are the experts in your needs your team will be responsible for your transfer to and from the beach equipment and while you are on the beach or in the water. Disability car parks are available at Williamson Reserve, Ocean Road, behind the Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club. A transfer area close to the boardwalk and under a canopy is available in front of the beach accessway.
Our team of volunteers will be on hand to have the equipment ready for you when you arrive along with a safety talk to ensure you have maximum possible enjoyment while you visit Whangamata. Please hand the equipment back to the volunteer on time as others may have booked the following time slot. The volunteer will check over the equipment, wash it down and store it away.
If you want to book some wheels today, note that bookings close 1 hour before the time slot to give volunteers time to set up.
